Mike Gao is a true product of the digital age, in all its colourful manifestations. From the hyperreal polychrome on the front cover to the trap-infected rattle of Red Car. This is a futuristic LP made by an artist who develops as many apps as he does beat patterns. There’s a shamelessness to cuts like Thirst and Gangsta Name which is impossible to resist. The music is bright, bold and produced for enjoyment over observation. Emulating both the minimal rap-stylings of DJ Mustard and the footwork tropes of the Teklife crew, Migamo is the sound of a not-so-distant future.
