Long-standing German experimental musician Burnt Friedman joins forces with Berlin-based actor and vocalist Daniel Dodd-Ellis once again for an involving full-length release via Friedman’s own Nonplace imprint. After collaborating on Friedman’s 2007 LP First Night Forever, Cease To Matter expands on their fruitful partnership and focuses on amalgamating poetry cut-ups with complex, reductionist rhythms. Raindrops open up on ‘Testmaze’, slowly developing into a dexterous groove moulded into a dub-heavy atmosphere with ‘Inward Sun’ pushing the hazy mood even further with its fuzzy chords. ‘Boundary Loss’ is the perfect piece to muse over with its soft flute and rounded drum hits whereas the driving pulse behind ‘Cycles’ pushes a more energetic mood.
