Canadian contemporary Jazz trio Badbadnotgood team up with Innovative Leisure for their third studio LP entitled III. Recorded at the band’s home studio whilst sticking to a strict analogue approach, III sees the trio join the dots between traditional modal jazz and a more hip-hop sound usually associated with Madlib or Dilla. A beautiful xylophone melody features on the moody ‘Can’t Leave The Night’ with torrents of deep bass and live drumming building a dense atmosphere whereas ‘CS60’ creates a deep layer of intensity with its tumbling drums eventually giving way for an onslaught of cymbal crashes.
