Canadian trio BADBADNOTGOOD return with their highly anticipated release ‘Talk Memory’ - fuelled by gloriously complex polyrhythms and harmonic juxtaposition, this offering is a true expression of their jazz roots. Opener ‘Signal from the Noise’ does what it says on the tin - the beginning of the track takes inspiration from the soundtracks of Alan Howarth, drawing the listener into a heady mix of deep infernal synth work which quickly bursts forth into a manic improvised jam of grand scale. The bands’ collective love for MF DOOM productions really shines through in spaces with their use of stretched out looped melodic phrasing on top of pounding rhythm sections. Accompanied by the groups key influence from Brazilian composer Arthur Verocai (also frequently referenced and sampled by DOOM) as well as features from contemporary icons such as rapper and vocalist Terrace Martin, drummer Karriem Riggins and ambient pioneer Laraaji, this monumental work joins a myriad of breathtaking jazz releases that continue to emerge in this musical renaissance.
