Wellington reggae producer Narm curates this riddim-rich compilation for dub rastas Jahtari, indulging his two loves: VHS horror films and even older synths. Twisting his Suzuki Omnichord into an array of herb-powered shapes, Narm and chums toast everything from police states on ‘Big Brother’ (with its irresistible chorus of “Anyting you do/’Im a watch you well proper”) to a Sega Megadrive requiem on ‘Mogwai Riddim’, an tuneful galactic ska number that samples Gizmo’s lullaby from the Gremlins movie. Like the most bruising dub you can think of played on an electronic greetings card, ‘March of the Gremlins’ is a gamble that works and a worthy addition to the Jahtari cannon.
