Finnish producer Eero Johnannes presents an afterthought on the closing track of recent release SND.PE VOL.01, with a remix by Ben Butler & Mousepad thrown in. The glossy, cartoon hip-hop of Johannes’ two tracks is reminiscent of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie at their most extrovert, complete with jazzy synthetic choirs, video-game cascades, and freakish vocal cut-ups. ‘Alternate Virtuality’ throws in an extra punch, rolling over into pulsing Footwork percussion towards its close, though still held together by crisp claps and wobbly saw-wave lead synth lines. Glasgow’s Ben Butler & Mousepad twists things into an eccentric mixture of incessant 4/4 and Radio 1 half-step extravagance in what all-in-all is a release full of showmanship.
