The Haxan Cloak has mostly been working away behind the scenes of late, with work as a scorer (for films, tv, and video games), and as a guiding hand in the studio for likeminded artists like serpentwithfeet and The Body among others. However, the UK man has suddenly reemerged with the promise of a new LP, the launching of his own label, and a reissue slate of his early and hugely influential back catalogue. The first of these reissues is his 2009 EP Observatory. While somewhat of a humble beginning by Haxan Cloak’s panoramic scale, Observatory, and the A side’s title track in particular stake an early claim on the man’s now signature sound: dark, turbulent, rhythmic, and yet eerily claiming.
