Coming full circle on the eighth volume of Sub Pop Singles Club, Sunn O))) are set to join the label's very series the duo were raised on growing up in north Seattle, where their first musical collaborations were forged. Their contribution continues the reverence of founding forces by channelling their heroes: Chuck Schuldiner of Death and Thomas Fischer of Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Triptykon. Teased and tested during sound checks for their Shoshin (初心) Duo tour, each track is a heavy slab of thunderous guitar buzz ripping through the chord changes, a minimalist affair presented in maximalist walls of noise favouring the low end of the spectrum. Where higher pitched shimmers creep into ‘Evil Chuck’, ‘Ron G. Warrior’ quakes and growls with trembling overtones.
