Bleep

Following on from 'A Certain Distance' which made it to one of Bleep's Top Albums of 2009, Lusine now returns to add a ninth album of rich, luscious techno to his impressive back catalogue. Once again, the Seattle-based producer Jeff McIlwain perfectly balances electronic explorations with a melodic pop aesthetic. It also continues the excursions into vocal-led tracks that characterized A Certain Distance — with exactly half of The Waiting Room's ten tracks employing vocalists, all show a flair for catchy song arrangement.

From the analogue synth lockdown of ‘Get the Message’ to ethereal vocal pop on ‘Another Tomorrow’, with plenty of anthemic keyboards in between, there's plenty to like with this album. With a recent revival of synth-pop (Grimes, Italians Do It Better, and the highly anticipated return of The Knife), Lusine pulls together an album that sits well in the current zeitgeist whilst showing off his dexterity as an electronic producer and for song arrangements in equal measure.
