First released in 2003 but now back via a vinyl and digital reissue, The Books’ second LP cemented their status as one of the more original artists of the 2000s. The Lemon of Pink’s quixotic blend of folk instrumentation, electro-acoustic composition, sampling, and the occasional vocal is a joy to behold in full flight, challenging and curious while still being inviting. Anyone who has enjoyed records by Sufjan Stevens, Dirty Projectors, Amiina and countless others shouldn’t hesitate in trying The Lemon of Pink on for size.
