Byrd Out present two artists making dense sculptures with sound on this reverberant split EP. KMRU takes the first half, layering reedy textures over each other on ‘Windbags’, which gets expanded by fellow Kenyan composer Nyokabi Kariũki into silk woven delay and vocal bliss. Self proclaimed East African nomad and polymath Hibotep meanwhile fills the other side with bubbling mixtures of transforming electronics. ‘Ebwino’ buzzes with emphatic vocals from rapper Will’stone, while the dusky bowed strings of ‘Saffron’ are paired with tingling synths, and rhythms skipping across the track like thunderclaps.
