The enigmatic masters of globetrotting psych music have returned with their first album since 2016’s Requiem. The occult Korpilombolo, Sweden roots of their mythology comes through on Oh Death right from the beginning, frantically reckoning with mortality on ‘Soon You Die’ as deep, resounding heartbeats fade into kaleidoscopic scribbles of scuzzy funk guitars in conversation. Erratic saxophones sound off like swarms of bleating goats amongst the band’s worldly suite of tablas, xylophone, and even a solo piano number. Meanwhile on ‘Do The Dance’, bouncing tribal drums and jaunty keys play in between walls of guitars surging around every corner.
