Stones Throw Records
Catalogue Number
Release Date
September 18, 2001

Yesterdays New Quintet features Ahmad Miller, Monk Hughes, Malik Flavors, Joe McDuphrey and Otis Jackson Jr. Gotcha — it’s really all Madlib. A jazz album in theory with the smoke-filled speak-easy vibe to match, Angles Without Edges realigned the genre with instrumental hip-hop production upon its 2001 release, blending slick double bass, an array of pitched percussion and organ hits straight out of a 1970s record into a sound that would inspire rappers to lyrically follow suit for the next two decades.
