By the time of his death in 2017, Finnish producer Mika Vainio mastered what few electronic musicians can do half as well throughout an entire lifetime of performances: turn digitised sound into something remarkably organic. Recorded live at 2016’s Berlin Atonal, 25082016235210179 is a fitting document of a late, great and totally peerless artist functioning at the peak of his powers. Split across seven parts, this LP sees Vainio applying unmitigated restraint and poise to scorched earth sonics; a great storm cloud of droning, elemental noise, broken through with moments of eerie calm and transcendental beauty.
