Producer duo Demdike Stare — that’s Sean Carty and Miles Whittaker — and guitarist Jon Collin don’t come from the States, but the Manchester-Lancashire team-up invoke deeply psychedelic Western Americana with their debut collaboration Sketches Of Everything. Bringing to mind the triangulated American primitive guitar styles of John Fahey and Robbie Basho being fed through a dark ambient filter, Demdike Stare and Collin embark on a sonic journey through magical realist Appalachia across two side-long compositions; hazily recorded ambiences coat Collin’s slack, bluesy tone in a filmic grain, giving off the impression of a documentary with an elusive subject.
