Multi-disciplinary artist and author Sophia Loizou paints a new materialist landscape with the vast experimental electronics of Untold. In accordance with its namesake, ‘Anima’ gives vital force to elements of the natural world through windswept drones and submerged vocal snippets, removing the ego in dramatic, psychedelic fashion. Heavily inspired by the multi-dimensional experience of outdoor raves, the sub-aquatic ambient worlds of ‘Vestal Waters’, ‘Fluxes’ and ‘Sylphonia’ recall the patter of heightened euphoria with slyly truncated amen breaks and vocals panned to discombobulating lengths. The listener is driven back to the regular world by the choral swells of ‘Apeiros’, a track which gradually fades away like the remnants of a beautiful dream.
