A musical experiment as well as a format-based one, MiniDisc Compact Disc. is truly a curio of recorded media and is yet beyond a mere novelty over 15 years after its MiniDisc-only release. Assembled by Autechre's Sean Booth and Rob Brown and multidisciplinary artist Russell Haswell, the 1998 release overcame the insurmountable technical limitations of the ATRAC compression system to craft a work of masterful experimental electronics, delivering 45 short tracks — some six seconds in length, some closing in at three minutes — of electrostatic, space-aged transmissions and compelling noise-hop productions.
