Aperture Records continue to bring us the best in Italian experimental electronics. The label’s latest salvo comes from Treviso-based duo Diaster (not Disaster). On Clustered Non Symmetry the pair of Matteo and Gianluca meet in the middle of their interests. Matteo’s interests in metal and music concrete enmesh neatly with Gianluca’s penchant for electronic sounds. The result is a portentous, often abrasive style that plays passages of digital noise off against mournfully beautiful ambiences. Moments like ‘Detect’ and ‘X-Ray’ also find Diaster skirting around the edges of techno and minimal synth music.
