Fresh from being profiled in an extensive feature for The Wire magazine, Aisha Devi presents her DNA Feelings for Houndstooth. Mixing in the sound of rave stabs, thumping beats, seraphic and guttural throat singing, mystical linguistics and corporeal sonics. DNA Feelings cuts to the bone for a truly transcendent experience.

Arriving on London's premier big room tech/house/DNB gym Fabric's in-house imprint Houndstooth may have those of you unfamiliar thinking that DNA Feelings is a 'club' record, yet leave all assumptions at the door as this is truly any and everything but 'club music'. Coated in a sugary sweet alt-pop glaze, DNA does almost anything to stay away from beats or prospect being boxed into any conventional genre tag that may float its way. Much like the output of Devi's Danse Noire imprint (home to key releases from J.G. Biberkopf, IVVVO and Vaghe Stelle), DNA's strength comes from operating within areas of expansive experimentation through electronics gleamed from pop, techno and bass, yet schooled in the outsider economics of absorbing everything under a post-punk umbrella. Utilising her voice to bewildering effect, each of DNA's lifelines threads Aisha's vocals through a bed of FX that give the feeling of her entire self seemingly becoming the most central part of the core fabric (no pun intended!) of the album's musical makeup.

DNA is a vastly complex recording that builds upon the unconventional electronics of both Aisha Devi as a recording artist and her skilled selections both as label head of Danse Noire and her regular appearances on NTS radio. Houndstooth sum it up best as "those prepared to think more broadly about electronic music will find a lot to get excited about here" and from listening to DNA, we can't say fairer than that.
