Based in St. Petersburg, Vladimir Karpov makes long, gritty ambient soundscapes under his XYR alias. If you have happened to chance upon his bandcamp before, you’ll have discovered a wealth of mesmerising and beguiling compositions which are often released free for digital download and available physically on highly limited cassette runs. Not Not Fun bless us with a first time vinyl debut (aside from a track on the amazing ‘Miracle Steps’ compilation earlier this year) by releasing his new album Labyrinth. The full album is an engaging and rewarding listen, but ‘Vicious Circle’ in particular leaves us breathless. Look out for his album El Dorado due later this year on Glaswegian label 12th Isle!
