Whereas the 2017 edition of Moon Duo’s discography numbers almost a dozen original records, back in 2009 the band had only set one single to wax before the release of the Killing Time EP. The four tracks therein helped set the group on their way to being one of modern psychedelia’s most celebrated outfits. Listening now as the EP is reissued, songs like ‘Speed’ remain as bracing as ever, with great torrents of feedback cascading down over thick drones and heady, intoxicating drumming. What is particularly nice about this Sacred Bones repress is that we also get an additional three numbers that never made the original cut: the creepy ‘Bopper’s Hat’; ‘Run Around’, which sounds like The Velvet Underground in space; and a partner piece to the original’s ‘Dead West’.
