Tadd Mullinix drops his third LP as Charles Manier via his own Bopside label (JTC, Brandon Mitchell). Luxus Steroid Abamita is as brain-melting a record as anything Manier has done so far, utterly uncompromising while still accessible and playful. Everything from Liars to Death Grips to Holly Herndon to clipping. comes to mind when listening to this record. From the opening industrial glitch of ‘Just-World Believers’ to closing epic ‘Yopo (Calcium Tree)’, Luxus Steroid Abamita is packed with hard-as-nails beat patterning, highly unusual synth work and vocals draped in billowing gowns of reverb. A tough, intense, but also richly rewarding record from an artist in a league of their own.
