Though this is Deapmash’s first release on Leisure System, the French producer’s tracks have been something of a secret weapon at the label’s parties for some time now. Truss, Randomer and Boys Noize are just a few to give him a co-sign, and the Halcyon EP demonstrates exactly what all the hype was about. The title cut is a ruffneck rave smash, a piece that combines the heady revivalism of Star Eyes with a juggernaut groove akin to Tessela’s ‘Rough 2’. The VIP is even more bracing, if that were possible. Sandwiched between the two we get Benjamin Damage collaboration ‘Solar 909’, an aptly named cut that fuses well-worn acid-techno stylings with off-kilter production quirks similar to those of Objekt.
