Four energetic, retroactive cuts on this EP, out via Sheffield’s CPU records. ‘Acid in a Church’ and ‘8oh8 Freight’ flip the same moody bassline to subtly different effects - the former a burbling roller, the latter quicker and layered atop with plaintive keys. The other two tracks bring in elements of acid electro while also going for the emotional jugular - ‘Remember Members’ in particular, with its warm chords and meandering synth lead, is sure to bring a tear to the eye of many a 5am raver. Sadly, Subtle Variance will stand as Microlith’s parting gift to the world - producer Rhys Celeste passed away in Febuary 2017, just a few weeks before the EP’s release.
