Bleep

A sort of half-collaboration here. London-based Joane Skyler and Berlin’s Broshuda reportedly shot some ideas back and forth for the other to either play around with or ignore before each took the reigns for one half of this tape. The result is a tape that, while quite clearly the work of separate artists, is united by the eerie and quixotic vibe that imbues both of their styles. Skyler’s second half is a strange jumble of grime, musique concrete and tape loops that brings to mind Hype Williams’ best work. Broshuda’s cuts are generally less obtuse, and ‘Tjorven’ comes through with the album’s most pleasant melody. That said, this is only relative - tracks like ‘Hundemund’ and ‘Gil’ could quite easily have been slotted into the b-side without anyone being any the wiser.
