The music of Marquavius McDonald aka Quavius isn’t exactly hip-house, though its combination of classic deep house production with hazy cloud rap would, on the face of it, portray such a style. If you’re familiar with Lustwerk label boss, Galcher Lustwerk’s output, then you’re on the right lines for where to place Quavius along the genre spectrum. See Quavius as Lustwerk’s protégé. ‘Love The Way’ is a definite standout, Quavius articulates his desires, watching someone on the dancefloor. However, on ‘Addidas’ and ‘Cloud 904’ Quavius ups the tempo, experimenting with Footwork and the Baltimore club music he grew up with as a kid.
