Now, this is proper. Julianna Barwick follows up the mesmerising Nepenthe (2013) with a record which elevates her singular style to bold and exciting new places – this is Will. This being Barwick her vocal sits at the deep cavernous centre, floating on an Enya-cloud, bathed in reverb – transcendent. Elsewhere, she brings more electronics (some of it was recorded in the Moog factory) to the palette, less linear loops, extended sweeping orchestral arrangements aided and abetted by Thomas Arsenault (aka Mas Ysa), Dutch cellist Maarten Vos, and sometime Chairlift drummer Jamie Ingalls. A stunning work, her best yet. Dream music.
