After appearing on John Beltran’s 2014 compilation Music For Machines and releasing a few soundtracks as Dial 81, Detroit ambient producer Blair French debuts on Delsin with his first full-length, Through The Blinds. Co-produced by the ambient veteran Beltran himself, the album cleverly integrates environmental sounds and surprising elements to create fascinating narratives. ‘Silver Ink And The Rotating Sun’ moves from ping-pong sounds to auto-tuned vocal samples. French displays the full pallet of ambient production, morphing the glacial distorted piano melodies of ‘Moonrise Train’ into the voiceless progression of ‘Debris’, turning to minimalist oscillations (‘Before Mornings Arrival’) and concluding in the overtone-loaded, noisy drones of 'No Receipts (Things You Can’t Take Back)’ – a diverse debut to the core.
