Parisian producer Marc Nguyen Tan aka Colder resurfaces with Many Colours, his first album in a decade. Building on the new wave ideas of his previous full length, 2005’s Heat, Tan’s sedated vocals put an unmistakable trademark stamp on it, but at the same time, sustained piano chords and more electronic rhythmic frameworks embody his curiosity for the new. Songs such as 'Another Year' with its minor key synth arpeggios and ‘Silence’, the album’s slowly trotting low-key closer, stand for Colder’s matured overall sound. It’s on the title track however where this comes to show most effectively, with bright, mellow piano chords layered on dark, jagged electronics, displaying Colder’s excellent sense of dynamics.
