Paul Woolford takes his junglist Special Request project to XL Recordings following his acclaimed debut album Soul Music and a recent slew of remixes for The Chemical Brothers, Wiley, and Jamie xx. The three-part Modern Warfare EP series sits alongside recent releases from Powell and Zomby in reconnecting the independent label with their rave roots. These dank dancefloor destroyers feature all the hallmarks that should be familiar to Special Request fans by now – cut-up breaks, disembodied vocal samples, and heavy bursts of sub bass – but there’s an even greater sense of precision and focus in the way that they’re deployed.
