Special Request’s breathless run of releases continues with Offworld. Paul Woolford’s third LP of 2019 has him attempting to fuse the sound of Juan Atkins’ Metroplex imprint with the snapping pop sensibility of Janet Jackson hitmakers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. He pulls it off, too - Offworld contains some of the most harmonious Special Request output to date. Tracks such as ‘Shepperton Moon Landing’ and ‘Arse End Of The Moon’ marry the stargazing techno style of Atkins’ famous label with melodic basslines and some of Woolford’s typically maximalist revivalist techniques. Offworld is yet another feather in the cap for this prolific artist - we hope he’s got plenty more left in the tank.
