Warp regular Guillermo Scott Herren aka Prefuse 73 returns on the excellent Brooklyn-based Temporary Residence Limited with Rivington Não Rio. As with the producer’s flawless back catalogue, Rivington No Rio is an enchanting piece of downtempo, intricately detailed and emotive in equal measure. The shimmering, beatless expanse of ‘Señora 95 (Intro)’ opens up, setting the mood for the mechanical, bit-funk of ‘Applauded Assumptions’ and the breezy Latin electronica of ‘Quite One’ which is complimented by Rob Crow’s (Pinback) soft, airy vocals. Another collaborative comes via Chicago-based Sam Dew who joins in on the introspective, future R&B piece ‘Infrared’, followed by the fragmented IDM textures of ‘Jacinto Lyric Range’, whereas the deconstruction piano keys on ‘Mojav Mating Call’ provide the most intense moment on an LP that covers a wide emotional spectrum.
