Warp alumni Prefuse 73 releases his first major release in four years on New York's Temporary Residence. Having kept busy in the interim since his last release with remixes and a slew of live dates, Guillermo S. Herren returns with a new creative lease of life. Tracks like Still Pretending and What They Got? manage to find order within chaos through a miscellany of sounds, beat patterns and production techniques. According to Herren, he hasn’t felt this comfortable with his own sound since the mid 2000s. It show as the tracks revel in weirdness and craft a sound that is unlike any other on the contemporary map. While there might be flashes of FlyLo or occasional glimmers of other contemporaries, Prefuse sounds confident as himself. A welcome return.
