Paddy Shine (Gnod,Tesla Tapes) and Michael Holland's Ono Tesla imprint (run out of communal art space Islington Mill in Salford) put out a real gem: an album of agitated darkwave sonics from Prague's Lightning Glove. It's an album that doesn't neatly fit anywhere, and is all the more thrilling for it. Elements of industrial, EBM, dubstep and punk-addled electro are stitched together to make a synapse jolting whole that unsettles and excites in equal measure. The soporific cyber-punk of opening track 'Brave New World' sees shards of noise that sound like they might be collapsing in on themselves tied to nervously ticking rhythms and vocals that sit somewhere between a guttural snarl and a drawl. 'Dream on (Ketamine God)' continues in the same dystopian vein, a hypnotic slow march that drags the listener deeper into their murky sound world. The sawing electro of 'Europe' amps up the energy, oblique but pummelling rhythms weaving a heady spell, while the primordial electronics of 'Highway To Nowhere' and 'When I Shut My Eyes' offer further apocalyptic urgency.
