French electronic icon Jean-Claude Risset was such a figurehead in “computer music” that he still casts a long shadow today, almost half a century after his 1968 debut ‘Computer Suite from Little Boy’ landed. That eerie, droning suite is included in this new compilation from Recollection GRM along with some equalily hypnotic early gems: the lapping waves and birdcall of ‘Sud’; ‘Mutations’ and its twinkling but sinister early synths. Like a primordial soup of electronic textures, ‘Music From Computer’ is a slab of history that could happily keep the pace with experimental producers of today.
