Taking the perennial space-travel theme as a starting point, Patrik Skoog’s new record ‘Exit Earth’ crafts a sci-fi techno sound for London-based Third Ear Recordings. The album is full of the sleek machine squeaks and crisp techno percussion that one would expect, which often create a classic mixture of brooding darkness and driving, unending movement promising some brave new world. Skoog’s lighter moments make this more than simply a vintage exercise though, the jacking stabs of ‘Stereo Waves’ and submerged velvety synth washes in ‘Stay in Orbit’ keeping interest subtly but effectively.
