Uwe Schmidt, aka Atom TM, inaugurates an Audio Archive label where he plans to release the entirety of his back-catalogue, complete with unreleased treats. ‘Lassigue Bendthaus/Matter (23rd Anniversary Edition)’ compiles the artist’s early ’90s material including the 1991 ‘Matter’ LP in full and the ‘Automotif’ and ‘Hertz’ 12 inches, bolstered by unreleased edits of the tracks. The ghost of Kraftwerk hangs over proceedings, summoned by melancholic robot vocals on ‘Relate’ and super-synthetic pastoral arpeggiations on ‘Velocity Life’, but there are echoes of the producer’s glitchier later work on labels like raster-noton in the Senking-like dread of ‘Rotation Mecanique’ and ‘Transitory’. A vital re-issue from one of German electronic music’s most prolific and idiosyncratic artists.
