Calgary indie rock act Braids’ second album sees them move away from the shoegaze of 2011’s ‘Native Speaker’ to a crisper, more pop sound. Those emotional blow-outs are still there - chiming guitars and Raphaelle Standell-Preston’s wailing voice on ‘In Kind’, warm cosy beats on ‘Together’ - but there’s a more careful approach to their songwriting here, one that sees them trusting electronics to shine a light on those fragile feelings.
