Tarquin Manek returns to Valentine’s Day with another M. Quake record. ‘Annie U R A Bird’ is full of roiling bass and percussive fragments scattered like coins in the spectrally shifting atmosphere. None other than Jonnine Standish (HTRK etc) adds her singular charm, referencing Annie Lennox’s ‘Little Bird’ with wild and free instinctual vocalisations echoing smokily into an electrified dubscape. The extended instrumental edit amplifies the track’s twisting twitchiness, its snapping beats jittering through soporific vibes.
