Butthole Surfers’ incendiary debut album gets a remaster for its fortieth anniversary, alongside the rest of the band’s catalogue. Guitars go wild with gritty feedback and distortion as the band present a totally warped take on psychedelia, rooted in their raw and unchained punk background. Exaggerated vocals and chugging guitar lines accelerate through ‘Concubine’, while ‘Cherub’ vibrates and oscillates in an extended workout. And then, there is of course ‘Butthole Surfer’, the song that gave the band their name and cemented their irreverent rock personality.
