Vanessa Bedoret’s debut album takes her violin and vocal compositions far beyond the realm of classical music. Eyes is totally awash with ambience and soaring highs, elasticated field recordings of birdsong, and an experimental club palette that disrupts the album’s gentle shimmers. Forceful kicks induce tension in the angelic yet mysterious vocals and violin drones of ‘Choice’, a constantly shifting collage of sounds and styles. ‘Ballad’ is catharsis effected in quietude, with cycling guitar plucks and the faint glimmer of glitches at the edge, while the visceral ‘1/2’ trudges through glass shards, with ethereal stutters broken by pulsating rhythms.
