The third in The Bug’s series of Machine EPs designed to shake clubs to their foundations, Machine III is a tangibly shredded and serrated round of brickwalled rhythm and noise, with dub beat patterns and bass glueing these apocalyptic sounds together. The scrubbing low frequencies and hefty industrial collisions of ‘Floored’ set off alarms, leading to the tense, high security escape plan of ‘Limbo’, with screeching tyres and gushing jets of metallic noise. Shrouded downtempo dub techno eases us out on ‘Hypnotized’, though it’s no less dark or heavy; as The Bug says himself, “It’s not gettin’ any lighter, trust.”
