It definitely takes a certain kind of madness to bring together certified legends of stoner metal and bass music for an EP of fractured and depth-defying dub, but The Bug’s PRESSURE label was built for this sorta thing. Collabing for the very first time with Sleep/Om architect Al Cisneros, The Bug (Kevin Martin) has found a partner equally in love with the sub-rattling bass tones at the center of classic reggae and dub music.

On their debut EP Rosin, the two explore those sounds from strange, but effective angles. Cisneros’ bass playing hits all the grooves just right, but with a gnarly tone that isn’t too far from the heavier work for which he’s primarily known. Meanwhile, The Bug slathers on crawling digital noise and builds strange drum samples around the low end to achieve a sound deeply indebted to its forebears, but uniquely modern all the same.
