London psych pop trio Vanishing Twin return to Fire Records for an expansive new LP entitled Afternoon X. Stitched together from a series of instrumental and compositional experiments, the group did away with traditional roles throughout the album’s recording, instead embracing a freer, multifaceted approach to music making. Now a solidified trio of Cathy Lucas, Valentina Magaletti (Holy Tongue, Tomaga, Moin), and Susumu Muka (Zongamin), Vanishing Twin emerged from this period of experimentation with some of their most ambitious music to date. Liquid, multi-suite tracks like the harp and synth centrepiece ‘Lotus Eater’ and the towering, almost trip-hop-y ‘The Down Below’ are marvels of intricate sonic engineering.
