English post-punk band Ulrika Spacek’s Rhys Edwards returns to the experimental solo moniker Astrel K for his debut LP on the legendary Duophonic Super 45s label. Inspired by a move to Stockholm where Edwards “didn't really know anyone”, the sessions for Flickering i saw him holed up in shared rehearsal space for nights on end, piecing together these tightly wound songs. While not straying too far from his main band’s driving approach, subtle instrumental flourishes place the project outside their scope. Tracks like the brief music box style interlude ‘9V’ and the droning ‘Forwardmomentum’ place Astrel K within the long history of Duophonic groups like Broadcast and Stereolab.
