You can generally look at ambient and new age music one of two ways; as holistic and slightly mystical methods of healing, or as dystopian sci-fi landscapes of ruin. Levels’ Lower Levels slips right into the latter, but not without distorting notions of the former. We imagine the cassette as a meditation tape salvaged from a house fire, the fragments of limitless bliss on ‘Searching For Alesta’ and ‘Saiba Industries’ warped into menacing shapes that occasionally jitter like a dub track.
