Tireless trawlers of sonic innovation Delsin Records continue their Mantis series with its fourth instalment, courtesy of Swiss production project and scene collective fixture Varuna. ‘Trackjam’ welcomes listening ears with watery ambience and fluid textures before the rhythmic weight of a synthesised kick drum in 4/4 releases mounting tension across its 10-minute runtime. ‘Pasop’ takes a similar tact with shimmering backdrops and reverberating, deconstructed DnB punctuations, recalling an auditory wilderness of hidden synthetic organisms. ‘Ratu’ introduces a slippery low-end groove to the proceedings, matched by cavernous pads and wayward ride crashes.
