Australian DJ Jarred Beeler aka DJ Plead refines his sound by distilling the combined influences of UK Funky and jungle — as well as countless other stimuli — into effervescently percussive tracks loaded with primal yet modern grooves. The title track itches at the edges of techno with its synth stabs and pads, livened with hi-bpm bongo hits, while ‘Rough Text’ etches out a suspenseful rhythm caught between dancehall and Brazilian carnival music. ‘Ess’ later sketches out a similar focus on non-European modes, recalling a manic kuduro dance beat. Later we find ‘Espresso’ more than earning its name with its hyper energetic, restless drum workout.
