Mourning [A] BLKstar’s fifth LP The Cycle is an epic set of space-soul. The album’s instrumentals are hugely ambitious Afrofuturist creations, a set of spiritualised breaks which have Outkast, Parliament/Funkadelic and D’Angelo in their DNA. At times the record also leaves behind the sounds of Earth to blast off into the stratosphere in a manner indebted to Sun Ra’s astral travelling. At around an hour in length, The Cycle really is a journey.
