It’s the early 90s, and you’re watching an infomercial. Perhaps it’s for perfume or a cruise liner holiday. All the smiling faces laugh and beckon you to join. The colours are pastel and washed out, the sun gives haloes everything it touches. But you feel alarmed, as the shapes on the screen start to mutate, faces drooping into impossibly coloured smears. It’s scary, yet aesthetically appealing. That’s the mental image conjured by young São Paulo DJ duo My Girlfriend’s Apron EP, melting chintzy synths and dappled tones into straight electro fusion deformity, as danceable as it is texturally strange.
